To the friends and families of Mountain Medical Center,

Like it was yesterday, I remember the first time I walked into Mountain Medical Center to drop off my resume. The smiling (actually giggling) front-office staff were very kind to me on that September day when I stopped by the office driving west from Nashville after graduating from my nurse practitioner program. The initial impression was comforting to me and still resonates strongly with me two years later after working very closely with Dr. Joel Gates and the other members of the team.

I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to learn, grow, and share life with such a compassionate, fun, and dedicated group of people. I could never have dreamed of landing such an opportunity as a novice nurse practitioner. In addition, it has been such an honor and privilege to form relationships and offer my care to the people of Ridgway, Ouray, and surrounding areas. I will cherish the encounters I have had with the miners, the outdoorsmen/women, the travelers, the adults, the teenagers, the children, and the families of this community. I sincerely appreciate the experience, the human connection, the joys, and the challenge that the work presented. I will cherish the memories that were made during my days in Ridgway and will miss the discussions and friendships that developed.

I do not like saying “goodbye,” so I will say “until next time.” I feel very sad about leaving the practice, yet at the same time, I am happy that the change has occurred as a result of the hard work, perseverance, and success of my best friend and husband, Andrew Tyler. He and I, along with his team, are moving to Denver so that he may launch his second restaurant project. The restaurant will be in the Lower Highlands (LoHi) neighborhood on Navajo St. We are going to temporarily trade in this mountain paradise for big city life so that we may return in a better position for settling down on the western slope.

I am comforted knowing that you are in the caring hands of Dr. Gates and JoJo Desantis, who as you know are amazing and both fully devoted to high quality patient care and compassionate service. I also feel confident that the right person will come along to fill the open position at Mountain Medical Center and will transition into the community just as I have.

Sincere thanks to each of you, and I wish for you all the blessings of good health and a long and happy life.

With love,

Sarah Lauderdale Tyler

Family Nurse Practitioner
