Are you coming off the high of Halloween candy binges and coasting into the annual holiday season full of decadent plates full of comfort food like so many of us? If so, it is a great time to think about Diabetes, whether you know you have it or even if you are perhaps at risk of having this disease and not even know it.

More than 30 million US adults have diabetes, and at least 1 of 3 people will develop diabetes in their lifetime. If you have diabetes, your medical costs are probably twice as high as those for people without diabetes, and your risk of death is 50% higher.

Risk factors include having prediabetes, being overweight, being 45 years or older, having a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes, being physically active less than 3 times per week, and ever having gestational diabetes.

If you would like to learn more about this disease and how you can prevent and/or manage it, November is National Diabetes Month, and the CDC has a lot of great resources on their website regarding how to manage your diabetes and live a longer, healthier life. Click here for more information! -
